Which file should you download? (Installer vs ZIP)
The official page may offer multiple downloads. The common pattern is an installer (easy setup) and a ZIP (portable). Choose based on how you prefer to install games on Windows.
- Installer (.exe): best for most users; guided setup and normal shortcuts.
- ZIP (.zip): best if you want a portable folder; you manually extract and run the game executable.
If you’re unsure, use the installer first. ZIP builds are fine, but many “it won’t launch” issues are caused by incomplete extraction or running from inside the compressed archive.
Install steps (Windows)
Option A: Installer (.exe)
- Download the installer from the official Itch.io page.
- Double-click to run. If Windows shows a SmartScreen prompt, read it carefully and only proceed if you’re sure you downloaded from the official page.
- Pick an install folder you can easily find (avoid installing inside temporary folders).
- Launch the game from the created shortcut or the install directory.
Option B: ZIP (.zip)
- Download the ZIP from the official Itch.io page.
- Extract the ZIP to a normal folder (for example: Documents or a Games folder).
- Run the game executable from the extracted folder (not from inside the ZIP).
- If it fails to run, try extracting again with a different tool, and ensure your antivirus isn’t blocking the extracted files.
If you see warnings or the download is blocked, don’t use “cracked repacks” or random patches. Instead, follow the quarantined/warning page and check the official Discord for announcements.
